Our Darkness – Your Light

I’ve seen the darkness all around.

I’ve felt its cold grip so abound,

In the streets and on TV

And in the schools for all to see.

*

I’ve heard the darkness in my home.

Sensed darkness in the loved ones gone.

In my day and in my dream,

On the news and in the street.

*

I’ve known the darkness in my sin.

I felt how darkness stirred within.

In my heart and deep inside.

T’was surely there – it could not hide.

*

Why did you come? You knew full well.

Why did You chose to come and dwell,

In our hearts and lives and still,

To love despite our darkened will?

*

You are our only hope today.

Your Light sends darkness on its way.

Your Light will set our hearts afire.

Your Light will fill our deep desire.

*

Thank You, Jesus, for your Light.

Help us to see our deep dark plight.

Help us to let You in this day.

So darkness flees and Light will stay.

*

John 1:5

The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
