Weeping Mothers

Matthew 2:18

“A voice was heard in Ramah,
weeping and loud lamentation,
Rachel weeping for her children;
she refused to be comforted, because they are no more.”

 *

The pointless murders of our youth –

The weeping mothers’ calls –

The heartache, pain, and mourning vast –

You see and hear them all?

 *

We sit in our desperate shape,

In utter filth and shame.

Blood covering our little ones.

Who can and do we blame?

 *

Where did we stray? Where do we go?

Who does these hateful deeds?

Who mends our broken hearts with hope?

Who knows to fill our need?

 *

Oh God, please hear our dire pleas.

Our wounds and pains attend.

Our world in darkness cries for you.

Bring light! Make darkness end!
