It is enough that you would see,
My Master, God Eternally,
And that your servant I would be –
Unworthy, serve you happily.
For I don’t know what you will do
With all that I have muddled through,
Ignoble things laid down for you,
In trust that you are good and true.
My comfort, joy, and peace will come
When all for you, my God, I’ve done,
When my own needs I have laid down
When glory goes to Christ, your Son.
(I have been struck over and over by the passage in Luke 17:7-10 about the unworthy servant. There, tucked in after the disciples’ request for more faith, is God’s message to us, namely that this life is not about us but about HIM. May what we lay down today, as unworthy and muddled it is, serve our God and Christ’s eternal glory. This is my prayer for us all.)
