How Do You Do It?

“How do you do it?” You ask.
”How do you hold on, while all else around you goes to sleep?
You know, eventually, you too, must surrender to the cold.
What is it that makes your heart hang on and still stand? How do you flash your light toward the watching audience (who, quite frankly, is waiting for you to just let go)?
Tell me! How DO you do it?”

”Well,” I say,
“you must dig a bit deeper. You must trust in your roots and let that for which you have been created shine. Trust in the process! Search diligently for the Light, even if it seems to take its time. And most of all, way down deep, you have to know that all dying brings with it new life and that one day, all, including you, will be made new again.”

Oh yes–the roots. They are key. When we know our God and Savior, when we’re familiar with his Word, and when we spend time with him in prayer, we’re much better equipped to handle the cold realities of life. Praise God for that equipping, and thank you, Heidi for this reminder-in-imagery.

Oh Heidi, this is very timely for me. Last night, I woke up after just a oouple of hours of sleep. As I lay in bed, trying to go back to sleep, I suddenly felt my heart beating very erratically. For several minutes, I thought that I was dying. I had recently started taking Benadryl at night as a sleep aid. I did a little googling and discovered that this over the counter antihistamine can cause heart arrythmias. So, I won’t be taking Benadryl any more. Overall, despite being in my early 70s, I think that I am very healthy. I have regular checkups, I exercise nearly every day, and my diet is good. But last night the truth in your last sentence really hit home for me!!

Heidi, I love this!! I, too have been looking at my flowers that just hang on, and the trees that won’t let go of their leaves….and they still are sooo beautiful!
