(After my Bible reading today in Proverbs, I sensed a nudge to try to write my own. My soul quickly found a deep joy as I contemplated Truth in my day to day. You should try it.)
Many are my ways,
but only One Way will lead to Eternal Life.
Like a moth fluttering aimlessly about in the dark,
so is my heart without hope and light –
though only a small beam shall bring me back.
When my soul ponders the goodness of God,
when it recalls His faithfulness,
joy arises and dispels my gloom
My shoulders droop, my bones creek
my desires are few:
That I could be free of pain and skip throughout my days on earth.
My bookshelves hold many riches –
pages of wisdom, insights, and instructions.
O that I would be able to reach and take my portion and fill for today.
I am surrounded by discontentment, contempt, and cursing.
They try to swallow me;
yet, I stand firm in the love of my God, in His salvation alone.
Like a bird in the top of the tree,
so am I in my home; it is my shelter;
I dwell securely.
Like a thief who breaks into a home to plunder,
is social media.
I am protected by contentment.
A warm cup of coffee,
a sunrise behind the neighbors mature pines,
a contented soul –
gifts from my Savior.
When prayers spring up from within,
when unexpected thoughts lift my spirit,
when I close my eyes and see,
the I AM is near.
Duty and labor are masters,
but rest and peace come from the Lord
in the middle of my work.
My tears recall my wrongs,
but forgiveness dries them.
Jesus is my ever-present help in times of sorrow.
A closed laptop,
a phone on its face,
and voices in my head on silent –
a way for the Almighty to speak,
an opportunity for the HOLY to enter.
