This morning I was reading in Proverbs. One verse brought me to tears. I look back on three decades of marriage and am humbled by my husband’s love. Over 25 years ago, he forgave me that which Christians often consider a reason for divorce.
As we prayed by his hospital bed, as he was still struggling with the effects of COVID, my heart received every ounce of God’s goodness in giving Scott the strength to stay married. I can look back today and see the goodness of God, despite this life-threatening struggle.
Proverbs 20:6
“Many man proclaims his own steadfast love,
but a faithful man who can find?”
This is what I wrote in my journal this morning.
Only true forgiveness will bring true repentance.
Only true repentance will bring true humility.
Only true humility will bring true love.
Only true love will bring true forgiveness.
“Lord, thank you for your steadfast love and faithfulness to us. Thank you for truly forgiving us in Christ. Thank you for working in us repentance and humility. Thank you for sending Jesus to show us what true love looks likes. Lord, in the power of the Spirit, help us move toward Heaven in an endless, growing pursuit of forgiveness, repentance, humility and true love.”
