Pregnant with the World to Come

Anticipation fills my heart
Longing for the world to come
A place
Where birds no longer chased
By ice and cold.
Where children no more die and stray
And mothers get to hold
Their babes – caress their smiling face.

My soul it thirsts
For coming ways when news
Of sickness and of shortened days
Not even are in memories past.
When instead the soul
Looks straight at Healing
As it prays.

But while we’re here,
Midst sin were hurled,
There was a mother who beheld
The coming world
Pregnant with the Hope for all
Within her womb,
The Dying One
Who knew His call
Pregnant with the Light that can
Make death a door to life
For ALL
Believing men.

You are the coming World,
the Lord
Love Incarnate, of One God
Jesus, you will reconcile
All that is sick and dark and bleek.
Turn holy what is now defiled.
Your Kingdom – in the World to come
But even now in souls who turn –
In daughter meek
In humble son.

(This poem was inspired by a devotional by Martin Schleske on judgement from December 29th. I was deeply moved by the phrase pregnant with the world to come. Poem and picture, © 2024 Heidi Viars)

“You are the coming World” — I could sit with this thought for days! Thank you, my friend.

What an insightful clause: pregnant with the world to come. Such a far-reaching outcome to Christ’s coming as a baby! And you beautifully extrapolated on the outcomes, Heidi, filling our hearts with joy and hope as we look forward to the day of his second coming! Thank you!

It will be glorious … for those who know Him. Let’s keep praying for those who don’t, Nancy. Blessings to you in the New Year. May you reach many with His Word.

I love the line, “looks straight at healing as it prays.” I’d like to do that with my sons.

Heidi, I love how you acted on the inspiration immediately and promptly posted it!

Our Sunday school class is studying Revelation, which is both sobering and encouraging. Yes, a new, glorious world is coming!

Thanks for your comment. Why is it so hard to sit down to write and so easy to listen to all those discouraging voices? Thank you for being an encouragement on this writing journey! Blessing to you in the new year ☺️
