How Would I Know?

I wrote this about 3 years ago, but it has even more meaning for me today. I want to encourage you to continue to look to Jesus Christ as you battle your storms and obediently trust God for the provisions on your journey. He is with you!

ice storm 010How would I know that you are my Light,
Had I never seen darkness, but all had been bright?
How would I know that you are my Peace,
Had I never battled, but all wars had ceased?
How would I know that you are my Hope,
Had I never despaired at the end of my rope?
How would I know that you are my Calm,
Had my ships never tossed in life’s violent storms?
How would I know to put faith in You,
Had I only been challenged with the things I could do?

Lord, strengthen me through the trials
and help me to hold on to the Hope I have in Jesus Christ.
You are faithfully working in me.
You have my permission to do in me as You see fit.
I trust You!

  1. I needed this reminder as I head into another challenging week. I don’t like being challenged. 😉 But I know that these are the places in which we grow. So, onwards and upwards, right??

    1. Like James says, “Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.” Yep, onward and upward! … thanks for stopping by, dear Melody

      1. You had to quote my LEAST favourite verse, huh? hehe My word for the year is resilience, and I can sure see that resilience is a handy quality to build into my repertoire. I don’t always like the effort it takes, but here’s to having more of a good thing! 🙂

  2. I am so thankful you posted this again. Thank you Heidi! It feels just like God talking to me. :). I read a devotion that said to practice saying, I trust You, Jesus. And then another spoke to me of needing to be at the point that I only depend on Him. All of these things together are helping me to view this time I’m in as a special time to draw close to Him and watch what He will do. Blessings and love and prayer!

    1. Someone just said to me, “Just know that with every challenge comes opportunity to trust Him more.” I am passing it on to you, since it blessed me so much when I heard it … Sending much love your way, dear sister! ❤️

Also love the poetic verse and agree with its sentiments
That verse in Isaiah is one of my favourites.
Thank you for sharing and for the encouragement.
