The Joy of the Lord

The Joy of the Lord resounds in my heart,
When I think of His love-filled deed,
On the cross, when He tore my sins far from me –
On the day He tore the curtain apart.

The Joy of the Lord makes my soul rest in peace,
When I give Him my troubled mind,
When I think of the day when my Lord healed the blind,
And the day He calmed raging seas.

The Joy of the Lord stirs hope in my soul
When I think of the world soon to be,
When I ponder on Heaven and all I will see,
On that day when death’s gone and we’re home.

The Joy of the Lord is honed in these trials,
While we’re walking on earth’s surface still.
May these days conform our mind and our will –
Help us count it “all joy” and “worthwhile”.

when you meet trials of various kinds,
for you know that the testing of your faith
produces steadfastness.
And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete,
lacking in nothing.
James 1:2-4

“The joy of the Lord is honed in these trials.” Now THERE is a mystery that begs to be deliberated! Joy is an outcome of trials? How does that happen? James gives us the answer, of course. We can rejoice in the steadfastness of faith and maturity of character that develop in the crucible of difficulties. Indeed, Lord, help me to “count it all joy.” Thank you, Heidi, for your thought-provoking poem!

Thank you, Miss Nancy, for being such an encouraging mentor. A friend and I have decided to memorize the book of James. By Thanksgiving we will have chapter one done. It’s been a life-changing pursuit. I wish I could relate to people the importance of keeping God’s Word in the forefront of our minds. It not only brings us tremendous joy, but equips us for all good works. THANKS, NANCY!!!!
