I first read The Sound of Life’s Unspeakable Beauty (Der Klang – Vom Unerhoerten Sinn des Lebens) in German. Since then it sit on my desk.
Martin Schleske’s words, every carefully chosen parable, and the well-crafted illustrations from his work as a luthier in Germany, leave a deep mark on the soul, something that is very difficult to put into words.
Six years ago, when I first held a Germany copy in my hand, I had only an inkling about its impact. The weightiness of the hardcover, its beautiful design, and the artistic photographs were all but hints of what was waiting inside of the pages. I found my heart connecting to God in a different and meaningful way. Martin’s words made me look at my life from the Designer’s perspective, from His heart toward His craft, namely humanity.
I can only dare you to pick up a copy. Be prepared. It has to be read in small devotional parts and can’t be consumed all at once.
WELL WORTH THE INVESTMENT!

We are indeed Scrolling Ourselves to Death – and despite the title, this book was a big encouragement to me.
Brett McCracken, the senior editor and contributor to this read (along with other contributors) exposes the dangers of our social media as he draws heavily on a book by Neil Postman, Amusing Ourselves to Death: Public Discourse in the Age of Show Business, which was published 40 years ago.
What did I take away? Church wake up! There is a Godly and healthy response to one of the biggest problems facing discipleship and face-to-face communities.
Great for studying in a small group. A very practical and helpful read.

I just got Suffering by Paul David Tripp a couple of days ago and cannot put it down.

This is one of my favorite quotes from the first pages:

“Here’s is what is so important to understand and what may be the principal contribution of this book: your suffering is more powerfully shaped by what’s in your heart than by what’s in your body or in the world around you.”

Yes, it’s another book that makes everything about the Gospel and about knowing Christ. My kind of read!

I recently suggested When God is Silent by Dr. John Koessler to some of the women in our Wednesday night Women’s Bible Study. After some discussion we decided we would go through it together as a group. There are so many reasons we love this book. Maybe the number one reason is the honesty with which Dr. Koessler writes. He helped us look at the most common prayer-struggles and made us dig deep into God’s Word for answers. We found ourselves immersed in the pages of Scriptures during our time together. If you decide to read it, make sure you keep a highlighter close. The book comes with a free study guide in the back which is helpful for any small group (men or women) or for your own reflection time.

After I read Holy Sexuality and the Gospel, I picked up several copies to give away.
Dr. Christopher Yuan does an amazing job of helping the reader navigate through the onslaught of today’s lies about our sexual identity. If you don’t have time to read it, listen to the audio version.
