“Listen…”

This evening, just before the sun set, I headed out with my camera into the rain.
As the rain soaked into the dry earth, it was as if my garden sighed in relief.
I was reminded of Moses’ song in the book of Deuteronomy, chapter 32.
Moses longed for God’s people to hear – and more so – listen to his teachings.
Moses longed for the hearts of the people to be soft and tender and ready to receive the beautiful gifts God had for them
in the teachings that came straight from the mouth of God.

Listen, you heavens, and I will speak;
hear, you earth, the words of my mouth.
Let my teaching fall like rain
and my words descend like dew,
like showers on new grass,
like abundant rain on tender plants.
Deuteronomy 32:2 (NIV)

“Lord, make me desperate for Your ways.
Don’t let my heart get so hard,
that it will not receive Your perfect instructions.
Let me always be dependent on You.
Let nothing in me ever be sufficient,
but only desperate to where I always long for Your instructions.
Open my heart to Your Word.
TEACH ME. I AM LISTENING!”

Gorgeous, gorgeous photos, Heidi–and you know how I LOVE the Moses stories (“murmuring Israelite” that I often am)!

We enjoyed a slow, soaking rain here on Thursday. Yesterday, all creation sparkled with renewed life. Colors seemed brighter; leaves and grass appeared polished. That portion of Moses’ song you shared brought to mind the renewal and glow God provides to us through his Word. Scripture does indeed cause similar effects on the spirit as rain does on plants.
And then your poem, Heidi, reminds us we must be open and receptive to God’s teaching. Hardened hearts cannot absorb His refreshment. With you I want to live according to the way of truth! Thank you for this beautiful, thought-provoking melding of Moses’ poetry and your own.

Loved it Heidi! It’s amazing when you think of the many people who refuse to REALLY listen to the voice of God. I know that they’re just listening to the devil and because all he can do is lie, people don’t realize what they are missing that God wants to do in their lives. We need to pray that God will pour out His Spirit greater than ever before and move His people closer to Him! In our loving Christ, Jacquie. jacquelinewhyte51@gmail.com
