Caught in Between

I sit on the edge of my footstool and look out into a frigid dawn. My phone app says 11 below. I can feel the frost. It’s trying to seep through the tiniest cracks in the window and under the blanket I put across my lap.

Condensation has collected at the bottom of the pane of the glass and turned into thin sheets of ice overnight. Now, that the blinds are open and a peach glow behind the scraggly pines is making promises, I watch the ice and its nightly determination melt into water droplets. They run slowly, here and there, across the vinyl window frame.

I too get caught between these worlds, my worries and God’s answers, my want to capitulate and his encouragement to keep going, between my resentment and his steadfast, merciful and never-ending love.

“The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases
his mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.
“The LORD is my portion,” says my soul,
“therefore I will hope in him.”
Lamentations 3:22-24

      God is good to share glimpses of his beauty with us … when we open our eyes to nature around us.

    There is hope Heidi. Spring is just around the 3rd corner. I know the need for a spiritual spring as I resemble that way too often and too quickly.

      I almost mentioned the spring … and the change of season. But … a hope deferred can make a heart sick. So, I just trust your word about what’s around that 3rd corner, brother 🙂

    I know. It is cold here too. But I push through one moment at a time. Trusting the Lord is always good and I have to slow down and reflect on His goodness. He always thinks about us and what we need.
    In the morning when I go out to get my coffee it takes so long because I have to scrape the car windows, and then wait for the car to warm up, etc. So I am being forced to slow down and do things right. And in those times, God gives me time to meditate on Him and smile at his goodness. Thanks so much for your writing.

    I shared a compelling comment earlier today, but I don’t see it. I guess it went to your SPAM folder?

    Praise God for the wisdom and insight he’s given you, Heidi. I love how your observation of frost becoming water turned into a worthwhile observation for our spiritual growth: that God is with us in our in between times, forever encouraging and loving us. Such a comfort! Thank you, my friend.

      Thank you for reading, my friend. How I have to be so careful not to get caught in the frost of this season, Nancy. His Word. It’s the only true north we hold on to.

    I always look forward to your writing, as well, Heidi. The warm light of God’s love keeps reaching toward our frosty hearts. “Every morning his mercies are new. Great is his faithfulness!” Lamentations 3:??

      Above all things we need to guard our hearts. … and be careful not let them grow cold. He will do it, if we ask!
