A Not-So (Socially) Distant God

A Holy God came down to earth
Indwelled the human race
Imago Dei now its worth –
God close, on every face.

He took a basin and a towel,
Got close and cleaned our feet,
As Servant He fulfilled the vow
We made and couldn’t keep.

What man deemed unclean, sick and lost
He chased relentlessly
Paid our payment on a cross
Came close and set us free.

He said, “Do not forsake to meet!
Fear not as you once did.
Remind each other as you eat
That God is in your midst.”

“Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful.  And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.”
Hebrews 10:23-25

Your words touched my spirit, as always, Heidi. You’ve drawn my attention to the ways Jesus drew close to people. He sat with outcasts, ate with sinners and even touched the leprous. What a gracious Savior! Praise God he came close–in our depravity, set us free from our sin, and will be with us always (Matthew 28:20). Mind-boggling.

It’s crazy how our minds think alike, Nancy. I had another stanza which said almost verbatim what you said, “He sat with the outcast and touched the leprous!” YES… Mind-boggling, indeed! Thanks for being a beautiful encouragement to my heart, friend.

I haven’t a clue what God’s Holy Spirit is doing today but He was touched with your poem because it melted my heart. I love it when this happens. More blessings to you too!

Than I praise God that He would use a tiny Word-Flinger like me to be involved in His work. Thank you for the encouragement, Brother!

“God with us”. Like the Feast of Booths, God “tabernacles” with us. Thank you, Heidi for reminding us in this time of distance. God’s grip – Alan

    Sweet Friend,
I am learning that God does not look for perfection in people but a willingness to trust in Him alone. Thank you for this beautiful expression of His faithful call . . .❤️
