The Heart Of My Father

Jack in the PulpitThe Heart of my Father I can see as I look
To the ocean and stream and the tiniest brook.

The Heart of my Father is revealed in His care –
For the fish in the sea and birds of the air.

The Heart of my Father affirmed in night-skies,
When all noises depart – when I hear with my eyes.

The Heart of my Father I sense all around,
As I listen to flowers that preach on the ground.

But never more fully His heart can be seen,
But at the cross where Christ died – God’s Heart bleeding for me.

Loved this poem, on this farm my husband and I feel we are only caretakers of what the Lord gives us and we so appreciate the beauty he has created in the animals and nature that surround us. We have the first litter of ferral kittens playing in my garden and they are so cute at 4 weeks of age learning to use their eyes and legs to navigate thier world. It won’t be long before I will have to gather them up from thier mother so I can find forever homes for them. But for now I will just enjoy watching the family play in and out of my flowerbeds. Godbless and keep on writing

I, too, love that phrase, “hear with my eyes.” Engaging our senses and our hearts does enhance our response to God and his creation. I recently came across a similar phrase in Nehemiah. He prayed to God, “Let your ear be attentive and YOUR EYES OPEN TO HEAR the prayer your servant is praying” (1:6). I wondered why Nehemiah would ask God to hear his prayer with EYES open. Perhaps Nehemiah was pleading with God to see the needs of his people as well as hear about them, and to engage his heart. Your lovely, worshipful poem helped me make sense of that verse. (At least come to one possible interpretation. My research has turned up nothing.) Thank you, Heidi!

Maybe God looks upon the deeds of His people and can see if they line up with their words proclaimed in prayer. May God always hear our prayers with His eyes.
Since we cannot hear God audibly, may we always “see” His voice with our eyes.
Thanks, dearest Nancy, for your insights and wisdom. I love it when you comment and always look forward to visiting you at your blog!!!! Blessings to you.

Heidi, I am going to “steal” a phrase of yours for a future acrostic, if you don’t mind…”hear with my eyes.”

Dear Heidi, Wow … love this one! Just sent to my sister in Iowa (and copied to her daughter). I have been connecting spiritually with my sister the last couple of times we’ve seen each other. She works at a garden magazine. Also, sent the eating seeds one too … a few months ago we talked a little about being a stream not a pond. Thank you for letting God use you in giving us tools to tell his story. Love, Amy P.S. I have a ton of bleeding hearts and never have thought of Jesus before 🙂
