The heart of Christmas can’t be found
In strings of lights on trees.
It doesn’t beat in Christmas sounds.
With eyes it can’t be seen.
The heart of Christmas you can’t buy
In store, or shop, or mall.
In sleigh with reindeer it can’t fly,
Nor through your chimney fall.
The heart of Christmas is our God –
Jesus – God’s heart displayed,
In form of child in manger’s sod,
There, God’s own Heart He laid.
The heart of Christmas came to take
Our broken desperate heart.
Gave in exchange His own and made
Us new – a brand new start.
The heart of Christmas, found in us –
Our God, Emmanuel.
Our Sin He bore, took to the cross,
So He in us could dwell.
And I will give you a new heart,
and a new spirit I will put within you.
And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh
and give you a heart of flesh.
Ezekiel 36:26 (ESV)
