This morning, I was walking and praying on my usual route through the woods. Among many other prayers, I have been asking God to bless me with more knowledge of His presence. I asked Him to open my eyes to the things He wants me to see.
As I was speaking with Him in my heart, my eyes were drawn up to the top of a tree in front of me, from where at that very second of my request a huge bird flew up.
In my heart I had hoped to just have witnessed an eagle take off, but I could not be certain. The sun was coming up behind it.
As I thanked my Father, I felt His presence in such an assuring way. I knew, He wanted me to know for sure. Right next to the tree was a look-out tower. I sensed to climb it and wait. My heart prayed, “Lord, if You want me to give testimony of Your answer to my heart, I would have to know it was an eagle.” I sat down and waited, my camera ready to go! I felt tears welling up and the gentleness of His Spirit close. It was only a few minutes later, when two majestic eagles started to fly back and forth right in front of me. I was able to capture them with my camera!
Suddenly, I became keenly aware of all the times I had not seen an eagle and how precious this moment was. I was reminded that God makes His grace known, even through seasons of withholding. What a marvelous God we serve.
“Father,
in seasons of abundant awareness
as well as in seasons of desperate seeking,
let us not wander far from Your heart! Help us to seek You,
namely through Your Word.
Help us to obey when you whisper into those quiet places of our heart.
In Jesus Name”
You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.
