His Constant Presence

This morning, I was walking and praying on my usual route through the woods. Among many other prayers, I have been asking God to bless me with more knowledge of His presence. I asked Him to open my eyes to the things He wants me to see.

As I was speaking with Him in my heart, my eyes were drawn up to the top of a tree in front of me, from where at that very second of my request a huge bird flew up.

In my heart I had hoped to just have witnessed an eagle take off, but I could not be certain. The sun was coming up behind it.

As I thanked my Father, I felt His presence in such an assuring way. I knew, He wanted me to know for sure. Right next to the tree was a look-out tower. I sensed to climb it and wait. My heart prayed, “Lord, if You want me to give testimony of Your answer to my heart, I would have to know it was an eagle.” I sat down and waited, my camera ready to go! I felt tears welling up and the gentleness of His Spirit close. It was only a few minutes later, when two majestic eagles started to fly back and forth right in front of me. I was able to capture them with my camera!

Suddenly, I became keenly aware of all the times I had not seen an eagle and how precious this moment was. I was reminded that God makes His grace known, even through seasons of withholding. What a marvelous God we serve.

“Father,
in seasons of abundant awareness
as well as in seasons of desperate seeking,
let us not wander far from Your heart! Help us to seek You,
namely through Your Word.
Help us to obey when you whisper into those quiet places of our heart.
In Jesus Name”

You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.
Jeremiah 29:13

Yes I think God did want you to see those eagles. I think there are so many things He wants us to see if we will just ask Him and believe. Many more things than we can even imagine.

“That’s just a coincidence, Heidi,” the skeptic would say, but we know better. We have been in a drought here in Texas; virtually no rain in all of August at our home. The grass was brown and the trees and bushes were dying. We have two acres so it’s too much to water. Thursday morning I prayed for an inch of rain – that afternoon it poured. Mary went out to check the rain gauge after the rain stopped and it was exactly one inch of rain! God still answers prayer!
(I should have told my wife’s sister I was praying for rain; all the windows in her new car were down and it got soaked:-)

You are so right, Bill. This was not a coincidence! It was a beautiful blessing from the Lord straight to my heart.
I am smiling about the rain you received.
      Psalm 145:17-18
The Lord is righteous in all his ways
and faithful in all he does.
The Lord is near to all who call on him,
to all who call on him in truth.
      He fulfills the desires of those who fear him;
he hears their cry and saves them.

Beautiful Heidi. Your learning to wait and be still for God’s answer is a witness to my soul . . . He is our high and lofty tower and provides us with so many opportunities to
see His strength and power if we only are willing to wait on Him. ~ Blessings in Christ ~

These past weeks God has been so kind and gentle to me. I sense it’s a special season. He has called my husband and me to step out of our comfort zone in matters of faith, to a task that will be impossible if we do it on our own. God has so tenderly assured me of His presence that I am learning to trust His voice more and more. He is teaching me not to fear uncertainty. The funny thing is that in the beginning of the year, I prayed for a word for the year (you can read about it here https://heidiviars.com/2013/01/01/the-word-for-the-year), and that is where I am finding myself today, headlong in surrender.

I’m curious about your phrase “seasons of withholding”–any chance you might talk about that more? God bless you BIG–love, sis Caddo

      Sure … love to 🙂
Maybe a better word than withhold is delays. I think withhold makes not as much sense.
For instance, I have been walking each day, the same route, in the same place. I don’t see eagles but a few times a year. He did not allow me to see them, or withheld/delayed them in a sense, only to later magnify His answer to my heart … so I could understand it better … Am I making any sense??? I thought of it this morning, that if I would see eagles all the time, I would not have noticed Him so clearly speaking to my heart through this at this very instant … I concluded that the “withholding” of one blessings can bring a much greater blessing down the road 🙂
This has nothing to do with His presence, or withholding that. He clearly says that He is always with us, if we are in Christ. He never leaves nor forsakes us. His Spirit dwells within us … always!
Sorry, if I caused confusion. I am grateful for your Spirit. Please let me know, if that makes sense.

OH YES, thank you so much–that helped a lot! I have a very negative association with “withholding”–but “delaying” doesn’t bother me at all, as you are SO right, that sometimes He withholds/delays “now”, for something far better “later”. I totally got what you were saying about the whole eagle deal–and His clear voice speaking at that instant–WONDERFUL. Thanks again for taking time to talk with me–I really do read posts with intention to understand, glean something from God–not just skim through with a “like” (or not)!! Much love to you–sis Caddo

You’re so right about the difficulty–particularly as we have to work in this flat-surface venue of the blogs. But as you were explaining, I honestly had a vision of you sitting with me here in my living room, with a cup of tea in your hand (and me with my diet Pepsi!)–it was such a nice visit, let’s do it again soon!! Much love.
